Review for Obsessed

Derek Charles (Idris Elba) is a hard working man, employed as an asset manager in a private company and who just happens to be the vice president! He is very happy with his beautiful wife, Sharon (Beyonce Knowles) whom he met at his office and was formally HIS assistant. They have one son and make a beautiful family. Derek and his wife just purchased a beautiful, large home.
At work, Derek suddenly gets a temporary worker, Lisa Sheridan (Ali Larter) who is both attractive and smart. She immediately has designs on Derek. Derek is understandably impressed with her and also finds himself physically drawn to her. One day, Lisa is in the lunchroom crying (faking and playing Derek like a fiddle!) He feels an obligation to ask her what is wrong. She confides in him that she is having boyfriend problems and that she feels unwanted and unloved. Derek does his best to comfort her and even adds that if he were a single man but then catches himself. Lisa totally misunderstands what was meant by his statement.
A short time later, the office throws a Christmas party (which does not allow spouses to attend!) and of course, Lisa spots Derek and coerces him to have a few drinks with her (one too many!) While at the party, Derek, although he has had too much to drink, realizes his limit and tries to make his way home to his adoring wife. But not before Lisa has a dance with him. While dancing, she manages to dance Derek over to some mistletoe and tries to "punk" him into kissing her. That fails, of course. He excuses himself from the party to go to the bathroom and while standing at the stall, Lisa comes in with the mistletoe! He tries to get her to leave but just then, someone walks in, so he has to push her into a stall, where she attempts to violate him against his will, when all he wants is for her to be quiet! She thinks because he won't let her leave that he WANTS to be in there with her!
Well, of course this is misconstrued as something more than what it REALLY was, in HER mind! It was just an innocent attempt for the both of them to save face and not be embarrassed by another co-worker. Things escalate quickly from here and there is no convincing Lisa that Derek does NOT want more than two sugars in his coffee!
This movie has THE perfect title! (Although, it seems just like "The Hand That Rocked the Cradle" and you have to remind yourself that this is NOT that movie!) Ali Larter is normally a favorite of mine, ever since she was in Final Destination, I always root for her and it was difficult (but not too hard, that bitch was crazy!) to "hate" her! I felt Beyonce Knowles just does not have the acting experience, for her scenes felt stiff, one-expression, (she was either smiling or pouting) and talking "cutesie-poo!" Her real acting came, of course, at the end! Only then, did she seem authentic (Yeah, the Texas "black" girl came out!) She is just to big of a celebrity for me to "suspend my disbelief!" (It was just Beyonce on the screen!) She didn't even seem natural as a mom, it seemed like she was baby-sitting!
Idris Elba...Mr. Chocolate God! He can act his way out of a paper bag! How lucky that both women got to be in this movie with him! For when their scenes seemed weak, he was the acting, driving force that made it all feel real! Besides, being easy on the eyes, his acting reminded you that this IS a movie, and you felt his emotions, as he made his way through the craziness of the "stalker!" First, his being uncomfortable with Lisa's overt advances. You felt the hurt and devastation, when his wife learned of the "alleged affair," and then, his anger of being violated in his own home. He truly can take you there, i.e. suspend your disbelief and lose yourself into what you are being shown! I give this movie 3 and 1/2 "bitch slaps" out of five! Check out the video!
