"Revenge" is at Hand

I will be the first to tell you, I love Transformers. I was already an adult when the clever "robot in disguise" toys were first introduced in 1984. I didn't even have children but that didn't stop me from being fascinated by manipulating the toy to change it from a car to a robot and then back. Luckily, at that time I worked at a child care center and was able to indulge in my transformer passion without being considered completely foolish.
Transformers, for those who don't know were originally developed by the Japanese firm Takara Tomy. Hasbro purchased the line and the rest is history. There was a "Transformers"cartoon, a cereal, a line of toys that encompassed vehicles, animals and very nearly every object known to man and in 1986 an animated feature length movie "Transformers: The Movie".
Then, in 2007 Dreamworks Studios, along with Paramount and United International Pictures released a live action film based on the franchise. The filmed based on a toy became the top grossing non sequel film of 2007. Before it was released, the MTV Movie Awards had voted it the "Best Summer Movie You Haven't Seen Yet". An award that was richly deserved. "Transformers" was fast paced and filled enough realistic effects to keep audiences captivated. The ending appropriately left you wondering if the Decepticons would return to challenge the Autobots. Everything about the first movie begged for a sequel and in September 2007, Paramount announced that the sequel would be released in late June 2009.
It's here.
On June 24, 2009 "Transformers Revenge of the Fallen" will open in the United States. After some initial reluctance, Shia LeBeouf returned to recreated the lead character "Sam Witwicky." Also returning are Meagan Fox as Sam's girlfriend "Mikaela Banes" and Josh Duhamel as "Captain Lennox" . Peter Cullen will again lend his voice to "Optimus Prime", leader of the Autobots and Hugo Weaving as the villain "Megatron" of the Decepticons.
The premise of the story? Sam Witwicky discovers something about the Transformers their history on Earth and the Decepticons capture him in an effort to get him to reveal the information. The kicker? The battle at Mission City in the original movie did not go public. Director Bay explains,"Everybody has gone ahead. It's realistic. Two weeks after the tsunami nobody talked about it anymore. It's very weird. We decided to do the same with the Transformers. The government talks about a military thing, says all is false, that it's a joke, and people don't know what they really saw."
A Government cover up about alien robots? Sounds like a possibility to me.
Roberto Orci, the writer says that the "Phoenix Lights" incident provided an inspiration for how the Transformers managed stay covert. Anyone who has ever wondered about the idea of alien life forms visiting Earth will want to catch this one. Especially if you are a fan of those incredible "robots in disguise."
