Review for Tombstone

Today, we continue with our theme "Bad Men with Good Morals." Tombstone was released in 1993 (It doesn't seem THAT long ago!) I am NOT a cowboy movie fan but I have to tell you, I LOVED this movie! The acting is superb and that cowboy look, those boots, the hats, with the long coats....SMOKING HOT! When it was in the theater, I took everyone I knew to see it (it is soo much better than that BORING Kevin Costner version!) I watch it every time it comes on t.v., I even own a copy! I watch this movie when I'm having a bad day. It makes me feel like I can take on the world! (My own personal "pep" talk!) I believe it has that effect on me because it is a true story (I researched the events and this re-telling is about as close as you can get except Wyatt had a few more brothers that were left out of this movie!) The cast is spectacular! Practically, everyone in it is very "movie famous!" Usually, I place pics of movies each person has been in but I don't think there would be enough room for that but I will name the cast:
Kurt Russell (Wyatt Earp, totally believable as a badass!), Val Kilmer (Doc Holliday, although very skinny because of the real Doc had TB, Val was awesome and very sexy!), Sam Elliott (Virgil Earp, I adore Sam, that mustache and that voice!), Bill Paxton (Morgan Earp), Powers Boothe (Curly Bill Brocius and Wyatt's nemesis), Michael Biehn (Johnny Ringo and Doc Holliday's nemesis), Charlton Heston (Henry Hooker, small part but still great acting!) Jason Priestley (Deputy Billy Breckinridge, small role and was a wimp!), Jon Tenney (John Behan, Cochise County Sheriff, what a jerk!), Thomas Haden Church (Billy Clanton, very young-looking but it's him!) Dana Delany (Josephine Marcus, the little homewrecker but she was great, very beautiful!) Joanna Pacula (Kate, Doc's no-good-for-him woman!) Billy Bob Thornton (Johnny Tyler, faro dealer at Oriental Saloon, he is UNRECOGNIZABLE! He is fat!) Billy Zane (Mr. Fabian), Wyatt Earp (Billy Claiborne, and NO this isn't a typo, his name is Wyatt Earp and YES, he is a distant relative!) John Corbett (Barnes) Terry O'Quinn (Mayor John Clum), Frank Stallone ( Ed Bailey, yes, Rocky's brother!) and finally on narration, Robert Mitchum! All I can say is...Wow!
The movie begins with Wyatt Earp and his brothers arriving with their wives, to the small town of Tombstone, Arizona. Wyatt and his brothers are just looking for a place where they can settle down and remain low-key (Not happening! Especially since everyone recognizes Wyatt as the "Kansas law man," everywhere he goes!) They are forced into violence from their quieter days by the outlaw gang known as "The Cowboys." They threaten Wyatt's retired lifestyle and open up war against the successful Earp Family. Aided by the quick and cunning Doc Holliday (and very funny!), Wyatt Earp fulfills a Mexican priest's prophesy of raging death and destruction to the Cowboys. Climatic events lead up to the historical, famed, "Shootout at the O.K. Corral." This shoot out causes both sides to seek revenge, with the ball landing in Wyatt's court! And oh, boy....can we say "Who let the dogs out?!" Wyatt and company hunt the cowboys down like rabid canines!
Now, of course, Wyatt is a law man and wants to be the peace maker (even in his own home, his wife is addicted to opium but he tries to deal with it) Right is right and wrong is wrong in black and white to him (heart of gold). But when pushed beyond his limits ("I've had all I can stands and I can't stands no more!" (Popeye!) he becomes a "bad man." I love the quote "If a see any man wearing a red sash (the crips.. oops, I mean cowboys symbol!) he's a dead man! This movie really makes you feel like you are there, it draws you into the action! Check it out!
