Review for Ninja Assassin
March 24th 2010 10:04
Today continues our theme "Bad Men with Good Morals" and we are reviewing "Ninja Assassin." Ever since Bruce Lee (maybe Jackie Chan) nobody has ever impressed me with their fighting skills...Well, the time has come! Rain (who hasn't done much acting but is a very big pop star back in Korea and is SMOKING HOT!) has been dubbed by me, the "new" Bruce Lee! As we all were impressed with the way Bruce swung those numchuks (is that right?), I was soo impressed how Rain swung those knives attached by a chain! To me, that is much more dangerous, especially when you are learning (Damn, I lost ANOTHER finger!)
Well, this movie starts in Berlin, Europol agent Mika Coretti (Naomie Harris) is investigating the existence of ninja assassins and has stumbled upon a money trail linking several political murders to an underground network. Defying the orders of her superior, Ryan Maslow (Ben Miles), Mika digs into top secret agency files to learn the truth behind the murders.
Meanwhile, we see Raizo (Rain), one of the deadliest assassins in the world, training hard to stay sharp for the revenge he must seek on his former clan. Raizo is haunted by the merciless execution of his childhood female friend by the Clan. He was taken from the streets as a child as well as many other children and transformed into a trained killer by the Ozunu Clan, whose very existence is considered a myth. After completing his final test, (which he fought his opponent with everything he had in him!) He was asked to kill another female assassin who had become a traitor, Raizo rebels by striking the only man he has known as his father and breaks free (barely!) from them and vanishes.
We learn that Mika's investigation has made her a target, and the Ozunu Clan sends a team of killers, led by the lethal Takeshi (Rick Yune), to silence her forever. Raizo saves Mika from her attackers, but he knows that the Clan will not rest until they are both eliminated. Now, running for their lives through the streets of Europe, Raizo and Mika must trust one another if they hope to survive and finally bring down the elusive Ozunu Clan.
Going by the title alone, we know our lead is a ninja ASSASSIN! It doesn't get any more "bad man" than that! But after he witnesses the heartless execution of his beloved friend, he could no longer bring himself to follow the teachings and traditions of the Ozunu clan. It took an extreme "heart of gold" to face the only man he has ever known as his father and a legion of assassins just to stand up for what he believed to be right in his heart (and they almost cut his heart out...literally!) Raizo's "heart of gold" is also shown with his newfound devotion to saving Mika's life. He barely knows this woman but protects her as if he has known her all of his life (and this is a trained assassin?....Wow!)
This movie has a 1970's feel to the cinematography and I like how there aren't any big name actors (so that you can focus on the acting and storyline!) The fighting scenes are reminiscent of a video game (Mortal Kombat to be exact!) The CGI effects with the spurting of blood is so over the top, you expect to hear "Finish him!," at any moment! Although, the movie starts out slow it builds to an excitement that will leave you wanting more! Bring on the Rain! Check out this cool trailer!
